Bolton-Landing
has been a place of refuge and relaxation for visitors and residents since 1799. Located on the shores of Lake George in New York's Adirondack Mountains, this community has much to offer visitors. First of all, the accommodations are plentiful and first rate - everything from lakeside cottages and resorts, grand old hotels and bed and breakfasts to convenient, modern motels. Lake George is known for its' trout and land-locked salmon fishing and in winter, the ice-fishing is excellent and several ice-fishing tournaments are held in Bolton Landing. There are also some great hiking trails in the region - from easy lakeshore walks to strenuous mountain trails - something for people of all abilities. One of the most popular trail systems is Tongue Mountain Range, which Backpacker Magazine rated as "a favorite hike in the northeastern region" in its' February 2005 edition. Other activities near Bolton Landing includes horseback riding, mountain biking, parasailing, hot air ballooning, steamship cruises on the river and shopping in antique stores and quaint boutiques. A special celebration and arts and crafts fair takes place in the heart of the village on July 2, 3 and 4th, with a fireworks display at dusk.

The weather in the Adirondacks can be variable, but historically the area has not been subjected to the devastation of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes that plague other parts of the country. There are four distinct seasons with winters marked by consistent snowfall and cold, crisp days. Summers are warm and pleasant, with temperatures rarely climbing above 90 degrees, and evenings with low humidity. In fact, in some areas of higher elevation, summer evenings can be downright cool. Generally, there is no rainy season in the Adirondacks, but rather there are both wet and dry spells in every season. Rain in the mountains has uneven patterns. It can be raining in one spot and ten miles away it will be dry as a bone. The western Adirondacks can experience lake effect snowstorms as early as October, from Watertown to Old Forge and areas south.
