East Marion
is a hamlet located within the town of Southold in Suffolk County on the North Fork of Long Island. As of the 2000 census, East Marion had a population of 756 residents. The hamlet was founded in 1646 and was formerly known as Oyster Pond Upper Neck and later Rocky Point. Also located within the town of Southold are the villages of Peconic, Greenport, Fishers Island, Cutchogue, Laurel, Orient, Mattituck, New Suffolk and Southold Village. This is the heart of the Long Island Wine Country, unparalleled in natural beauty where you’ll find 25 wineries and picturesque vineyards and farmlands, endless beaches and beautiful harbors. Attractions on the North Fork near East Marion include more than twenty museums, antique shops and unique gift shops, farmers markets and flea markets. It’s a great area for bicycling, hiking, sailing, fishing and kayaking and canoeing. There are lighthouse tours, hayrides in the fall and sleigh rides in the wintertime. Restaurants in East Marion feature local produce and delicious, fresh seafood and there are many historic bed and breakfast inns in the area. The town of Southold alone offers several interesting attractions, including the Horton Point Lighthouse/Nautical Museum, the Museums of Historical Southold and the Southold Indian Museum. The Suffolk County Marine Environmental Learning Center is also located here and features a hands-on touch tank with local marine species.

Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April%u2019s warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
