Ellicottville is known as the "Aspen of the East." It 's a charming town located in the western part of the state northeast of Little Valley and just one mile north of Holiday Valley. Quaint and inviting, Ellicottville has a main street that is lined with boutiques, gift shops, restaurants, cafes and a microbrewery. The permanent population of town is only around 1,000, but is filled with services geared towards the large number of tourists that visit the area each year. The village has a historic district, as well, with a pretty town green, a museum, church and town hall. Ellicottville is home to two of the largest ski areas in western New York. HoliMont is located here, which is the largest member-owned ski area in North America with 50 trails and 750 acres. Holiday Valley is the second largest ski area, with 52 slopes with challenging runs, gentle slopes for beginners and plenty of room for snowboarders and sledding. In summer, Holiday Valley offers a scenic 18-hole par 72 golf course, and a three-day golf school, conducted twice weekly during the summer months. Nearby Allegany State Park has 65,000 acres for swimming, hiking, biking, hunting and fishing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Ellicottville is also just fifteen minutes from the Chapel Hill Raceway. Ellicottville Weather & Climate

Western New York experiences four distinct seasons. Average January temperatures are above 22 degrees Fahrenheit. The Buffalo area receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation, and over half of the annual snowfall comes from "lake effect" snows and is localized. Summer temperatures average around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. The average date of the last frost is near the end of April in the Buffalo metro area, but in mid May well inland. Summer is pleasant in this region, with plentiful sunshine, warm temperatures and moderate levels of humidity. Rainfall is adequate, many times coming at night so that it's seldom a problem for outdoor activities. The stabilizing effect of Lake Erie helps inhibit thunderstorms and modifies the extreme heat that approaches from the Ohio Valley.
