Findley-Lake
is a village and lake in the westernmost corner of the state, located just one mile from the Pennsylvania State line. It is considered a "hamlet" of the town if Mica, New York, and is approximately 20 miles from Erie, Pennsylvania, two hours from Buffalo, New York and two hours from Cleveland, Ohio. The village of Findley was settled in 1815 by war veteran Alexander Findley, who built a dam to power his mill on two ponds located here, thus creating the lake. Findley Lake is not a large lake, but is in the heart of a major recreation area that offers year round activities such as boating and fishing, hunting, golf, hiking, ice fishing and cross-country skiing. In addition, all the streets of the town of Findley Lake are marked for snowmobiles. A popular four-season resort is located less than five miles from the village and many small towns populate the area and offer antique shopping, restaurants, wineries, farm markets, Amish crafts, country inns and bed and breakfasts. The village of Findley itself has a downtown that boasts 20 specialty shops, several antique shops and restaurants, and in the summertime, the town hosts "Concerts at the Gazebo" on Wednesday nights.

Western New York has a four season climate that is somewhat influenced by the Great Lakes. Winters are generally cloudy, cold and snowy, but are changeable and include frequent thaws and rain, as well. Snow covers the ground usually from Christmas into early March, but a period when the ground is bare is also not uncommon. Over half of the annual snowfall comes from "lake effect" snows and is very localized. Spring comes slowly to western New York. The ice pack on Lake Erie does not usually go away until mid April and the lake remains chilly through most of May. Summers are pleasant, with warm temperatures and moderate humidity. Autumn is very nice, but brief in the Niagara Falls area. The first frost can be expected in late September over interior sections, but not until mid October in the Buffalo metro area.
