Roscoe was voted "Best Outdoor Sports Town in New York," by Sports Afield Magazine and the town bills itself as "Trout Town USA." An article in the New York Times says "with a downtown that is just one block long but home to three fishing supply stores, you could get the idea that Roscoe is all about fishing." However, there is more than just fishing to the town of Roscoe. It's located just off Highway 17 in the western foothills of the Catskills Mountains in the southern region of the state. Just two hours from the George Washington Bridge in New York City, Roscoe sits on the edge of the Catskills Park and is near the Beaverkill and Willowemoc Rivers. The village of Roscoe is one of three hamlets in the Township of Rockland, with the other two being Livingston Manor and Lew Beach. Besides fishing, snow sports such as cross country skiing and snowshoeing are popular in Roscoe, and in the summertime, it's golf, hiking, biking, swimming, canoeing, camping, or antiquing and attending the Sullivan County Area Farmers Market. The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum is located in Livingston Manor, and the nearby village of Callicoon holds outdoor summer concerts at the town bandstand every Wednesday evening. Roscoe is all that you would expect of a small rural town in the Catskills - not big on nightlife, but plenty of peace and quiet, outdoor fun and fresh country air.

Roscoe Weather & Climate

The Catskills region region has cold, snowy winters and warm summers, but without the stifling, oppressive heat and humidity of some coastal areas. Normally, the hottest week of the year in the Catskills is the third week of July. September offers mild days and cool nights and October is a kaleidoscope of color in the Catskills. "Jack Frost" will likely make his first appearance in October in the region. November is unpredictable and with December comes colder temperatures and more moisture - either in the form of rain or snow. The full force of the winter season arrives in January and stays around until March in the Catskills. Average January temperatures are a good three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at over two thousand feet.
