The Pines is located one hour east of New York City on Fire Island, but seems a world apart from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis. The Pines is actually one of 17 communities on Fire Island, nestled between the magnificent Atlantic Ocean and the gentle South Bay. What you will find on The Fire Island Pines are wind swept ocean beaches – lots of them. The 32-mile-long seashore contains natural features such as the Otis Pike Wilderness Area, the only federal wilderness in New York, and the Sunken Forest, a 300-year-old holly forest. Fire Island does have many other things to offer, as well, such as museums, educational programs, tours, great seafood restaurants and more. The Pines, and all of Fire Island, is part of the Fire Island National Seashore. Activities abound, including hiking, swimming, beach volleyball, surfing, fishing, boating, beachcombing and all the normal beach activities. The Pines has a marina that is owned and operated by the Fire Island Pines Property Owners Association. Slips at the marina are available for the season, weekend, week or hour and can accommodate a wide variety of boat sizes. The Pines also holds a gala 4th of July Celebration at their Harbor with fireworks across the Bay.

The Pines Weather & Climate

Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April's warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
