Cape-Vincent is a picturesque village whose northwest border is the St. Lawrence River and the western border is Lake Ontario. A large portion of the town is a peninsula that projects into Lake Ontario, where the lake enters the river. On the opposite shore of the river from Cape Vincent is Canada. New York State Route 12E runs in part along the St. Lawrence River before turning southeast at Cape Vincent. Dairy farming and tourism are the main industries in the Township, which is well known among anglers for its unique mix of lake and river fishing. It is near the cities of Alexandria Bay, Watertown and Kingston, but far enough away to make a peaceful, quiet getaway with a slogan known as "Escape to the Cape!" The village of Cape Vincent has many historical homes and some thirty buildings listed on the State and Federal Historic Register. The Stone House, thus named because it was the first home in the area to be built of stone, dates to 1815 and was built by James LeRoy de Chaumont for his son Vincent, for whom the village was named. The town is host to an annual French Festival, usually held in July, and offers many other attractions such as the Tibbets Point Lighthouse, boat tours of the lake, a village green and waterfront park, shopping, fine dining and more.

The Thousand Island region has a varied climate, depending on location and elevation. Generally, The Thousand Islands has average January temperatures ranging from 14 degrees to 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer temps average between 68 and 72 degrees. Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 to 40 inches of rain and snowmelt. There is plenty of sunshine in the summertime and low to moderate humidity levels. Lake-effect snow occurs when cold air crosses the relatively warm lake waters and becomes saturated, creating clouds and precipitation downwind. The location of these snowbands is determined by the direction of the wind. Due to the prevailing winds, areas south of Buffalo receive much more lake-effect snow than locations to the north. New York does not experience devastating storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes, as do other parts of the country.
