Deposit
is located in Delaware County near the Pennsylvania border in the south-central region of the state, 31 miles east of Binghamton. Located near the West Branch of the Delaware River, the town, at one time, had a thriving lumber industry. Locals say the interesting name stems from it being the place where lumber was deposited until the river waters were high enough to ship it on to Philadelphia. It is also near the Catskills, and is popular among fishermen, hunters, hikers, birdwatching and wildlife enthusiasts, campers and sightseers. Several mountaintop lakes are located in the region, that offer a peaceful respite for tourists. The village of Deposit was originally called "Cookhouse," which came from the name of a local Native American village located on the banks of the river called "Koo Koose." Today, the town has a very nice historical museum, a restored theater, public swimming pool, and a seasonal farmer's market (called the Koo Koose Farmer's Market.) The town is also host to an annual Lumberjack Festival. Deposit makes a scenic, quaint sightseeing spot or a good vacation base for exploring the whole Catskills/Delaware region of the state.

The Central Region of New York enjoys a four-season climate with lots of sunshine in the summer and cold, snowy conditions in the winter. This region is a unique mix of farmland, sparkling lakes and cascading waterfalls and other geological wonders. The area around Syracuse receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation, and annual precipitation is from 36 to 44 inches of rain and snowmelt. Summers are pleasant, generally with only a handful of days when humidity is really a problem. Autumn is sunny and cool, but brief. Snow is usually on the ground from Christmas until mid-March, although a period when the ground is bare is also not uncommon. Severe weather such as hurricanes or tornadoes are generally not experienced in New York, as they are in other parts of the country.
