Pond Eddy is a small village in Sullivan County near the Pennsylvania state line, which is approximately 90 miles from New York City and about two hours from the city of Albany. The setting around Pond Eddy is rural, in the southwest area of the Catskills Mountains near High Pond State Park. The countryside is peaceful, idyllic and offers abundant recreational opportunities and historic attractions. River rafting, canoeing, fishing, and hiking, horseback riding and golf are all located nearby. The town of Pond Eddy is small town living at its’ best, yet provides easy access to all the major markets. Sullivan County, which includes the village of Pond Eddy, is filled with small towns and hamlets with antique shops, farmer’s markets, flea markets, country inns and bed and breakfasts. Nearby, the Delaware River is the longest free-flowing river in the Northeast and runs for 73 miles along the Pennsylvania/New York border. Ice caves, waterfalls, maple syrup farms, and other interesting landmarks can be found all up and down the Hudson River. Other places of interest include the Zane Grey Museum and John Roebling’s Delaware Aqueduct.

Pond Eddy Weather & Climate

The Catskill Mountains  has a climate with many variations depending on the elevation. There is a totally different winter in the mountains and the higher plateaus over 1,000 feet. There, the grip of winter is strong and steady, and above freezing temperatures are less common. Average January temperatures are three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at elevations above two thousand feet. Snowfall is fairly uniform during the month of January in the Catskills. The third week of July is generally the hottest time of the year in the Catskills, and rainfall during the warm months is usually confined to a few days rather than spread throughout the month. September has warm days, cool nights and fog at dawn over the Hudson valley. By October the hills are a kaleidoscope of color, and the first hard freeze is usually at the end of October.
