Accord is a hamlet located in Ulster County, New York, with a population of 622, according to the 2000 census. It is near the spectacular Mohonk Mountain House and the town of Kingston. The town was originally called “Discord,” but the name was eventually changed to “Accord” by “optimistic postal authorities.” Ulster County is one of the most picturesque regions of New York, with a countryside of rolling hills, tall pines, lakes and streams and waterfalls. Nearby attractions include Minnewaska State Park, the Ellenville Ice Caves, Sam’s Point Dwarf Pine Barrens and Verkeerder Kill Falls. Recreational activities available in the area include hiking, biking, swimming, boating, fishing, canoeing, rafting, cross-country skiing and rock climbing. Nearby, the city of Kingston offers lots of activities for visitors, such as guided and self-guided walking tours of the town’s various historic districts, art exhibits, live theater, children’s activities, a weekend farmer’s market and many wonderful restaurants. The many quaint towns of Ulster County host special events throughout the year, such as old-fashioned festivals and fairs and countryside farms that offer “pick-your-own” strawberries, cherries and pumpkins. The town of New Paltz, which is less than 10 miles from Accord, hosts an annual “Taste of New Paltz Festival” in the fall and the “New Paltz Winter Carnival” in February.

Accord Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region, which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild %u2013 high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
