Rosendale lies in the heart of New York’s historic Hudson Valley in Ulster County, about midway between New York City and Albany. The population of the town is approximately 6,500. The town’s claim to fame is for being the source of “Rosendale Cement,” which was used in the foundations for both the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty. The main street business district of Rosendale has many shops and services, and area accommodations range from cozy bed & breakfast inns to larger hotels and resorts. Attractions in town include the Delaware and Hudson Canal, the Natural Cement Historic District (including the Snyder Estate and the Widow Jane Mine,) and Perrine’s Covered Bridge and the 1895 Wallkill Valley Railroad trestle. In addition, the nearby Shawangunk Mountains are a hiker’s paradise, and it is also a popular place for rock climbing (the Shawangunks have become one of the most sought after rock climbing challenges in the country.) Rosendale is also fast becoming known as “The Festival Town.” They host a Chili Bowl Festival in February, the Beltane Festival in April, Rosendale Street Festival in July, as well as a Mid-Summer Festival in July, Founder’s Day in September/October, an International Pickle Festival in November and A Rosendale Christmas in early December.

Rosendale Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild %u2013 high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
