Marbletown has a population of approximately 5,000 and is set among the beautiful hills and peaceful valleys of the Catskills Mountains, approximately three miles from the Ashokan Reservoir and near the Catskills State Park. The village of Marbletown was settled in 1669, and by 1672 there were 53 log houses at the site of the town. Today, it’s a relaxing place only two hours from New York City, but seems a world away from the hustle and bustle and crowds. Many activities are available in the area like hiking, fishing, swimming, canoeing, rock climbing, golf, and in wintertime, downhill and cross-country skiing. Several ski resorts are located nearby and many other small towns and hamlets in the region offer lots of antiquing, shopping and restaurants. The town of Kingston, which was the state’s first Capital, is just a few miles from Marbletown, and has museums, art galleries, great shopping and dining opportunities. Riverboat cruises of the Hudson River are available in Kingston and self-guided tours are available of the historic Uptown, Midtown and Rondout Creek areas of town. If you are looking for a “hometown” experience, far from the tourist traps of the larger resort areas, a visit to Marbletown will definitely fit the bill.

The Catskills region has cold, snowy winters and warm summers, but without the stifling, oppressive heat and humidity of some coastal areas. Normally, the hottest week of the year in the Catskills is the third week of July. September offers mild days and cool nights and October is a kaleidoscope of color. %u201CJack Frost%u201D will likely make his first appearance in October, and the first hard freeze is usually at the end of that month. November is unpredictable and with December comes colder temperatures and more moisture %u2013 either in the form of rain or snow. The full force of the winter season arrives in January and stays around until March in the Catskills. Average January temperatures are a good three to four degrees colder at elevations from one to two thousand feet and over seven degrees colder at over two thousand feet.
