Kerhonkson is a small village of approximately 1,700 located in Ulster County in the southeastern Hudson Valley region of the state. The town is most well known for being home to a family owned and operated Dude Ranch that offers activities of all kinds for all ages, and an upscale, four season, full service resort that features an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts, two restaurants and a European-style spa. This is one of the most picturesque regions of the state of New York, with unspoiled backcountry full of waterfalls, tall pines and crystal clear lakes and streams. Minnewaska State Park is just a few miles from Kerhonkson, which offers 12,000 acres of scenic landscape for hiking and picnicking. Other recreational activities available nearby include biking, swimming, boating and fishing, water skiing, cross-country skiing and rock climbing. The rare and beautiful Ellenville Ice Caves makes an interesting day trip from Kerhonkson, and Sam’s Point Dwarf Pine Barrens contains several hiking trails and interesting landmarks like Indian Rock and Verkeerder Kill Falls. Spring in Kerhonkson means visiting the community’s maple syrup farms, where daily tours are given in season during March and April. Fall brings fall foliage tours and hayrides at local “Pick Your Own Pumpkin” farms.

Kerhonkson Weather & Climate

The Hudson Valley Region, which generally refers to the canyon area of the Hudson River and surrounding communities in New York State, has a four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but there are variations. Some years there is no snow or ice and the temperatures and river stays quite mild - high 40s to low 50s. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring. Summers in the Hudson Valley are hazy, warm and humid. September can be a mixed bag of clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is one of the best months in the region for hiking and other outdoor sports. The weather is cooler and less humid then, with crisp, clear views of the High Peaks of the Adirondacks, the Catskills and the Hudson Highlands.
