Hillsdale
is a small, but charming and historically rich town, located in the eastern portion of Columbia County, just 2 hours north of New York City. Not surprisingly, it was named for the picturesque hills and dales found throughout the town. It's friendly, rural nature, open green spaces and scenic views, along with it's close proximity to the Catamount Ski Area bring lots of visitors to Hillsdale each year. Hillsdale has an ideal country setting, yet is near restaurants, shopping and cultural opportunities, which draws many city dwellers here for quiet rest and recuperation. A thirty-minute drive takes you to the concerts at Tanglewood, Jacob's Pillow and Shakespeare & Co. Other nearby attractions includes The Shaker Museum and Library at Old Chatham, the Norman Rockwell Museum at Stockbridge and the Martin Van Buren State Historic Site. Hillsdale also has lots of outdoor recreational options with unpaved roads and trails that are great for hiking and biking and skiing and snowboarding at nearby Catamount. Hillsdale also embraces the artistic lifestyle and is host to an annual Folk Festival that celebrates folk music and dance. Almost half of 1,744 residents don't live here full time, but keep weekend or vacation homes in the town.

The Berkshires of New York has a variable four season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but it varies from year to year. Some years there is no snow or ice until after the first of the New Year, and the temperatures near the Hudson River stay quite mild. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring, although cool temperatures can linger throughout the month. Summers are hazy, warm and humid. September can be mixed with clear, cool Canadian air or warm, humid air with intense downpours. October is possibly the most beautiful month in the Berkshires with warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Perfect weather for enjoying the foliage. Typically, colors peak the first three weeks of October.
