Paradox-Lake is a quiet mountain lake, located just one mile from the village of Severance within the six million-acre Adirondack State Park. Called "one of the cleanest lakes" in the State Park, Paradox Lake is three miles long and one mile wide, a smooth lake that is perfect for canoeing and kayaking. Many other outdoor recreational activities are also available at Paradox Lake, including fishing, hiking, rock climbing, water skiing, jet skiing, parasailing, windsurfing, golf and wildlife viewing. Nearby Whiteface Mountain offers world class downhill skiing and snowboarding, and miles of cross-country trails are easily accessible in the area. Well-known Lake Placid is just one hour from the Paradox Lake, and offers endless opportunities for ice skating, cross-country skiing, swimming, boating and fishing, as well as dining, shopping and nightlife. Other nearby attractions include the historic village of Essex, Cobble Hill Golf Course (one of the oldest in the country,) and the Adirondack History Center Museum & Colonial Garden. Paradox Lake is a peaceful mountain retreat in the midst of one of the country's most desirable vacation destinations.

Paradox Lake Weather & Climate

The weather in the Adirondacks can be variable, but historically the area has not been subjected to the devastation of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes that plague other parts of the country. There are four distinct seasons with winters marked by consistent snowfall and cold, crisp days. Summers are warm and pleasant, with temperatures rarely climbing above 90 degrees, and evenings with low humidity. In fact, in some areas of higher elevation, summer evenings can be downright cool. Generally, there is no rainy season in the Adirondacks, but rather there are both wet and dry spells in every season. Rain in the mountains has uneven patterns. It can be raining in one spot and ten miles away it will be dry as a bone. The western Adirondacks can experience lake effect snowstorms as early as October, from Watertown to Old Forge and areas south.
