Schroon-Lake
is an exciting resort area and quaint village nestled in the Adirondack Mountains, just off I-87 near Lake George. Known as a four-season recreational playground, Schroon Lake has something for just about everyone. It's a great place to relax and unwind and do nothing except sit back and enjoy the beautiful mountain views and peaceful surroundings. Or, engage in a variety of sports, such as swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, white water rafting, golf and tennis and mountain biking. In winter, there is cross-country and downhill skiing, snowmobiling and sledding. Hiking trails abound in the Schroon Lake area, Pharaoh Mountain Wilderness and Hoffman Notch areas and the lakes and rivers are filled with trout, bass and salmon. The main street of Schroon Lake village is lined with antique shops, specialty stores, restaurants and a movie theater. The town boasts one of the largest Ice Fishing Derbies in the Adirondacks and each year hosts a great old-fashioned 4th of July Parade and Extravaganza. Other special events in Schroon Lake throughout the year include the Adirondack Folk Festival, an Annual Arts and Crafts Fair, an annual Strawberry Festival, as well as weekly square dances, concerts and plays.

The weather in the Adirondacks can be variable, but historically the area has not been subjected to the devastation of hurricanes, earthquakes and tornadoes that plague other parts of the country. There are four distinct seasons with winters marked by consistent snowfall and cold, crisp days. Summers are warm and pleasant, with temperatures rarely climbing above 90 degrees, and evenings with low humidity. In fact, in some areas of higher elevation, summer evenings can be downright cool. Generally, there is no rainy season in the Adirondacks, but rather there are both wet and dry spells in every season. Rain in the mountains has uneven patterns. It can be raining in one spot and ten miles away it will be dry as a bone. The western Adirondacks can experience lake effect snowstorms as early as October, from Watertown to Old Forge and areas south.
