Quogue
is an incorporated village that is part of the Greater Westhampton region of Long Island. Within Quogue Proper is the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses 300 acres of diverse wildlife and a variety of habitats for wild animals. Within the refuge is the “Distressed Wildlife Complex,” a facility for wild animals that have become permanently incapacitated. Quogue is also home to the Old Schoolhouse Museum that contains old farm and household equipment, photographs and local artifacts. As part of the Hamptons, Quogue is near all the major attractions of Long Island, including the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center, the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, the Halsey Homestead, the Atlantis Marine World Aquarium and the Long Island Wineries. The Long Island wineries were recently voted “Best Weekend Getaway from New York City,” by citysearch.com editors and readers. Quogue area beaches and bays provide lots of outdoor recreational opportunities like swimming, sailing, fishing, boating, canoeing, diving and snorkeling. Long Island enjoys a four-season, moderate climate, given its relatively northern latitude-which makes it a pleasant place to visit year-round. It is the largest island adjoining the continental United States, extending approximately 118 miles east-northeast from the mouth of the Hudson River, adjacent to Manhattan Island. Winters tend to be unpredictable and summers can be warm and muggy, but offshore breezes help moderate temperatures. Spring and fall are the best times to visit, when temperatures are mild. March tends to be rainy, but temperatures stay above freezing. April%u2019s warming temperatures makes it more comfortable and May is generally a gorgeous month on Long Island, weather wise. September to November is pleasant and mild, and the changing leaves make it a beautiful time to visit.
