Stephentown is a small, historic town of approximately 3,000 residents, located in Rensselaer County in the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. The town claims to be the only "Stephentown" in the world. The town of Stephentown was first settled around 1765 and founded in 1784 from the Rensselaerwyck Manor. It stretches for thirty miles along the Hudson River and offers hundreds of acres of parks, miles of hiking trails and more than 500 lakes and ponds. Outdoor activities abound in the area, including golf, swimming, boating, biking, skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing and more. Picturesque Stephentown is bordered on the east by the Taghkanic Mountains and the Petersburgh Mountains to the west. During summer and fall, the area is filled with farm stands and flea markets, fairs and festivals. Along Rensselaer Countys waterfront youll find a unique blend of history, culture and peaceful rural atmosphere. Many hotels, bed and breakfast inns and fine restaurants can be found all along the 30 miles of Hudson River waterfront in Rensselaer County. Every season of the year is special in Stephentown, but especially in Autumn when people travel from all over for some of the best fall foliage in the country. Special tours are arranged in the fall to take advantage of the seasons peak in color. Autumn, winter, spring or summer, Stephentown is a perfect Berkshires getaway destination.

Western New York, including The Berkshires, has a moderate four-season climate. The first significant snowfall usually occurs in December, but it varies from year to year. Some years there is no snow or ice until after the first of the new year, and the temperatures near The Hudson River stay quite mild. March is the month to look for the first signs of spring, although cool temps can linger throughout the month. Summers are hazy, warm and humid. September can be mixed with either clear, cool Canadian air or humid, warm air with intense downpours. October is possibly the most beautiful month in the Berkshires with warm, sunny days and cool, crisp nights. Perfect weather for enjoying the foliage. Typically, colors peak the first three weeks of October.
