Willsboro is located on the western shores of Lake Champlain in the Adirondack Park Preserve. Situated in Essex County in the northeastern part of the state, Willsboro is a historic village, settled in 1765. Today it is most notably a tourist town, with its' location on Lake Champlain being the main draw to the area. In Willsboro, one can take a guided canoe trip into some of the more remote areas of the park, and fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, and mountain biking are among the other activities available in the area. Willsboro also offers a full service marina on the lake, and is home to a 9-hole golf course. Visitors to Willsboro also enjoy the 1812 Homestead Farm and Museum, which is a working farm representative of the 1800s, with a gift shop on the premises. For those visiting in the wintertime, the town of Willsboro is just 30 miles from Lake Placid and Whiteface Mountain, site of the 1980 Winter Olympics and one of the most popular ski resort areas in the east. Willsboro has access to lakeside cabins and cottages and campgrounds, and offers shopping and good homestyle restaurants to visitors, making it a relaxed, unspoiled kind of place to base a vacation in the Adirondacks.

The Adirondack Mountains, near Saranac Lake and Lake Placid, enjoys four specific seasons with winters that are crisp, cold and snowy and warm, pleasant summers with low humidity. In spring and autumn, the days are warm and the evenings cool, perfect for viewing the wildflowers of April or the colors of fall. The average summer temperature is 75 F (24 C) and the average low is 50F (10 C); winter's average high is 27 F (-3 C) and the average low is 5 F (-15 C). The annual precipitation is 39 inches, keeping the forests green and the lakes and streams flowing. As with most mountain climates, the weather can change quickly, however, so be prepared. A sunny day can turn stormy very quickly in the higher elevations. Luckily, the Adirondacks do not experience the devastation of tornadoes, earthquakes or hurricanes as do some other areas of the country. There is no specific rainy season; rather there are both wet and dry spells in every season.
