Sodus-Point
is a lakeside village of approximately 1200 full time residents, located on the shore of Lake Ontario. Sodus Point is actually one of two hamlets located within the town of Sodus. It sits on Sodus Bay, which is often called the "Crown Jewel of Lake Ontario." The village was first settled in 1792 when it was considered an ideal harbor for exporting farm products and other goods. As one of the best natural harbors on Lake Ontario, Sodus Point soon became well known for its lumber, grain and coal trade, commercial fishing, ice industry and shipbuilding. Today, it's a bustling resort area where thousands come each year to enjoy the gorgeous scenery, fishing, boating, swimming, dining and other entertainment. The whole area is dotted with marinas, quaint shops and restaurants, bed & breakfast inns, fishing charters, antique shops and souvenir shops. One of the main attractions on Sodus Point is the Old Sodus Point Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, which features Sunday concerts, tours, a special 4th of July Celebration, picnics and other events. There is a beach park at Sodus Point that has picnic pavilions and playground equipment for children. Sodus Point is ideal for yachtsmen, fishermen, campers and anyone who enjoys breathtaking scenery, lake activities and a summer resort town ambiance.

The Finger Lakes Region is bounded by Lake Ontario to the north and the state of Pennsylvania to the south. Precipitation in the region ranges from less than 36 inches to approximately 40 inches of rain and snowmelt. The lakes act as a giant "heat sink" that retain the warm temperatures of summer in their waters, slowly releasing it in the fall and early winter. This helps moderate temperatures along the shoreline. Therefore, communities right along the lakeshores will be warmer in winter and cooler in the summer compared to areas further away from the lakes. This also accounts for the successful vineyards in the Finger Lakes region. As the lake gives out heat in the late fall and early winter, the vineyards have an extended growing season. In addition, the weather in spring heats up more slowly than other areas of the state.
