Galway-Lake is a lake located in the western half of the town of Galway in Saratoga County, New York. The town is a mix of residential homes, farming and small business and the lake is a popular summer spot for members of the Galway Lake Camper's Association. The lake is privately owned. This region was first settled in 1774 on the corner of what is Donnan and Sacandaga Roads in the southern section of the town (just outside the village.) The town of Galway was incorporated in 1838. Joseph Henry, a famous inventor of the electron magnet at the Smithsonian, lived in the town of Galway during 1809-1818. There is a historic marker of his home on East Street. As part of Saratoga County, Lake Galway is near many attractions and offers a variety of things to see and do. There are many beautiful parks in the region, including Saratoga State Park and Saratoga Lake. Activities available include swimming, boating, fishing, mountain biking, camping, hot air balloon rides, horseback riding, kayaking and cross-country skiing. Saratoga is famous for its harness racing and there are over 20 golf courses located in Saratoga County. Galway is also in an area that is rich in history. During the later years of the Revolutionary War, Saratoga County was the site of the battle known as "the turning point of the American Revolution." Nearby places of historic interest include the Historical Society of Saratoga Springs Museum, Grants Cottage, and the Saratoga Battlefield site and monument in nearby town of Stillwater.

Central New York , including the foothills region of the Adirondack Mountains and the Finger Lakes region, enjoys a four-season climate. Summers are usually pleasantly warm, marred occasionally by brief periods of sultry conditions. The New York City area and lower portions of the Hudson Valley have much warmer summers and uncomfortable humidity, by comparison. Precipitation is pretty evenly distributed throughout the year in central New York. Topography, elevation, and proximity to large bodies of water result in a great variation of snowfall in the region, even within relatively short distances. Thunderstorms occur, on average, about 30 days in a year in central New York. Tornadoes are not common. The location and climate is perfect for growing grapes, and dozens of award-winning wineries are in the area.
