Pulaski
is a village located on Route 11, adjacent to Interstate 81, just ten miles from Lake Ontario and approximately 30 miles north of Syracuse. It is situated within the town of Richland. As of the 2000 census, the village had a population of 2,398. Pulaski lies in the heart of a recreational paradise, located on one of the 3 Salmon Rivers off the east end of Lake Ontario. The main industry of Pulaski is tourism and its major draw is sportfishing. During the winter months, the area is known for its' snowmobiling. The Salmon River is known for its' large runs of fish and Lake Ontario is just a short drive away and also offers excellent fishing and boating. Other area activities include hiking, golf, swimming, sailing, water-skiing, jet skiing and rafting, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Pulaksi is located within Oswego County, which is not only known for its incredible fishing opportunities, but also its' pristine shoreline along Lake Ontario, wilderness areas and quaint towns and villages. Nearby Sandy Creek is the site of Winona State Forest, which offers a ski lodge and 50 km of marked trails for skiing and snowshoeing. Four seasons of outdoor fun is available here, along with historic sites that celebrate our country's heritage, fall foliage tours, maple sugaring, antiquing and small town festivals and fairs.

The Thousand Islands region has a varied climate, depending on location and elevation. Generally, The Thousand Islands has average January temperatures ranging from 14 degrees to 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer temps average between 68 and 72 degrees. Precipitation in the region ranges from 36 to 40 inches of rain and snowmelt. There is plenty of sunshine in the summertime and low to moderate humidity levels. Lake-effect snow occurs when cold air crosses the relatively warm lake waters and becomes saturated, creating clouds and precipitation downwind. The location of these snowbands is determined by the direction of the wind. Due to the prevailing winds, areas south of Buffalo receive much more lake-effect snow than locations to the north. New York does not experience devastating storms such as tornadoes or hurricanes, as do other parts of the country.
