Tuxedo Park
is a well preserved, historic village located in Orange County in the Hudson Valley, less than an hour from New York City. In 1885-86, Pierre Lorillard IV created this breathtakingly beautiful sportsmans preserve out of a mountain wilderness. It contains an enclave of mansions and beautifully designed homes by some of the best-known architects of the day, clustered around three sparkling lakes beneath the Ramapo Mountains. A designated historic district, Tuxedo Park retains a number of significant residences, some of which date from 1886, and exemplifies nearly every important style of American domestic architecture, including Tudor Revival, Spanish Mission, Georgian, Jacobean, Gothic Revival, Queen Anne and Dutch Colonial Revival. The architects whose work appears in Tuxedo Park reads like a Whos Who of the times and few communities in the country retain such a remarkable number of mansions in such pristine condition. After the Depression, the town lost many of its socialites and wealthy inhabitants. The village was incorporated in 1952 and the Tuxedo Park Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Nearby parks include Harriman State Park and the Sterling Forest State Park. Recreational facilities abound and include swimming at the Wee Wah Beach Club for Tuxedo residents, skiing at nearby Peter Mountain, golf, tennis, fishing, hiking and boating are all nearby.

The Finger Lakes Region has four seasons that are greatly moderated by the eleven lakes of the area. This is because the greater the volume of water, the more time it will take for the air to heat up in the summertime, and in winter, the heat that the lakes have retained all summer is slowly released, moderating temps along the shoreline. Thus, communities along the lakeshores will be warmer in winter and cooler in the summer compared to areas further away from the shore. This phenomenon also accounts for the successful vineyards in the Finger Lakes region. This region receives some of the heaviest snowfalls in the nation. Total precipitation ranges from less than 36 inches to approximately 40 inches of rain and snowmelt.
